Look Magazine Weekly #2nd November

Hello my lovelies, I hope you all are having either a great half term or are looking forward to the weekend, like I am. As all students know the work load can be forever piling up, but I feel like I am finally getting my life more organised. You know when you tick off something on your to do list and that sense of gratification you get, is so relieving. I need to stop rambling on and get started on this week's post!

On to all things LOOK.........

If you know fashion like I do then you will be aware that Balmain has been working closely with H&M to launch their very own collection with them and I am in love with what they have produced. Not only did I see that it was trending on twitter #Balmination but I saw a Youtuber wearing a piece from the collection. My favourite piece from the collection is the black and gold dress, I just love the intricate embroidery detail and embellishment. The dress is £299.99 but I think it's worth the price because how many people are going to say they owned a Balmain dress and for that price, especially when you have the likes of Kendall and Gigi running the campaign.

On to the style picks of the week. The first being this lace up detail skirt from River island, I think it is very different and gives a great slit on the side. The skirt can be styled up or down but either way you will be giving off a daring/edgy vibe which is just what you want. Could be great for Halloween, just think about....

The another style pick is this new collection from Little Mistress, the dresses are great for the upcoming parties and Christmas meals. You will be like a show stopper on top of the Christmas tree, where everyone will be gazing as you dazzle them as you walk by!

Fashion History #5 Industrial Revolution

Hello my fashion historians and welcome back to the last fashion history of this series. I cannot believe five weeks have gone by so quick, it has been an emotional and rather interesting journey when looking at how far fashion has come. It feels good to look back and see what the famous and influential icons and designers did to spark off the great trends that have been transformed today.

Now to finish off we are going to the Industrial Revolution where we are going to see how the fashion industry really got the recognition it needed.

On to all things Industrial Revolution.....

The era where growth and evolution was at a peak, which impacted the fashion industry. I know you fellow historians are like how so?  I will tell you, technology and transport systems were being improved and this was great for fashion readers because they were able to dictate fashion information in many forms. From magazines to newspaper articles this was the start to share all the great ideas worldwide and that is how word got round.

Fashion magazines were on the rise when they started to produce hand coloured plates each month with different types of dresses on them. This is where the empire line dress which you can see above of the left came about. Inspired by the Greeks and the Romans, the dress had draped fabric, that was high at the waist and had short trains. The dress is very simple but showed great elegance.

So over the last couple of posts we have had fashion icons but this week we have a very influential fashion designer of this era. It is Mr Charles Worth he is recognised as "the father of haute couture" Let's talk about his creations, well on the right, is a tulle ballgown that he designed and created for Elizabeth of Bavaria, Empress of Austria. It is simply a beautiful piece, the soft blush tulle paired with the cascading flowers in her hair makes the look timeless.

Some of his great work involved frothy ball gowns as we have already seen, outfits combining taffeta, velvet and silk with intricate detailing. One of his famous gowns called Débutante's Ball dress was a satin gown with taffeta that was decorated with silk roses and petals!

Look Magazine Weekly #26th October

Hello my lovelies, I think I am slowly becoming a night owl since I am writing this post so late into the night. I am normally in bed, all warm & cosy, dreaming about wonderful things! *sigh* I feel like I am drifting away from the whole point of this post. For all the new wondering eyes that have gazed upon this post, this is a post where I talk about the latest fashion and style gossip from my favourite magazine, and I pick articles and clothes I have enjoyed in this week's issue. Let's get started before this night owl becomes a sleepy puppy!

On to all things LOOK.....

Now I know I have mentioned midi pleated skirts, many times in this series. I think LOOK has finally understood my vision in some way. Let me explain, we both feel that this piece in particular can make your look, look like something off a catwalk! I love how the New Yorkers have added there twist on it, by pairing them with knits. It definitely adds that edge to it!

Moving onto the next topic of discussion, I have seen that Miss Selfridges has launched their Little Black Dress collection. My first thoughts, there are some interesting pieces that have caught my eye, and there is a sense of uniqueness between each dress which is great to see. As being a lover of lace I would say, I see dresses that I would simply like to wear, I would recommend checking the collection out!

This week I have only chosen one style pick but I wanted to include a red carpet dress.
Let's talk about the dress, it's a beautiful marigold gown, with lots of pleating and gathering at the waist. From the sweetheart neckline to the cut outs in the bodice there is something mesmerising about this dress. I guess that's what you get when you put a Bond girl on a red carpet, Yes she is the new bond girl and she suits the role to the T!

To finish off, the pinafore dress is something all girls should be looking to invest in! They are great to style and give off a school girl vibe! This berry coloured pinafore is only £22.99 which is very affordable considering I spent £40 on one a few years back!

Fashion History #4 From Baroque to Rococo

Hello my fashion historians and welcome back to another fashion history. I hope you are enjoying these posts as we are travelling through time. Can you believe that we are coming to an end of this series, with only one post left! Now back to this week's post.

On to all things Baroque to Rococo......

I know my fellow fashion historians you must be wondering Baroque? Rococo? WHATTT?
Baroque was massive in the 17th century, mainly because it was set in France and that it was a style that was grand and very heavy in decoration. Whereas Rococo came about in the 18th century where fashion became lighter and dresses were flowing than being stiff and structured.

We have two fashions icons which will reflect both styles we are going to be exploring.

Henrietta Maria (on the left)

Henrietta Maria was from the baroque century. Due to being a Queen her dress sense really made a statement in society. She had a love for pearls which she wore in her hair symbolising her wealth. Some of her dresses were high waisted gowns that were made from shimmering satin which created lots of volume. She adopted the Virago sleeve, this was a panelled sleeve that was drawn in at the arm to create puffs.  Queen Henrietta Maria did not incorporate much taffeta and lace but these were fabrics which were used a lot in this century.

Now Maria - Antoinette was from the Rococo century. She was very different to other queens, she was one of those women who wanted her say in what she wore. She adapted her own style which was known as the  "Polonaise" style, which was a bodice that enhanced your cleavage, ankle - baring skirt, elbow lengthened sleeve, edged with a frill. I would say she was a women who knew what she wanted and knew how to wear her fashion the right way! 

Moving into modern day we going to explore the development from then to now.

1) Baroque and Rococo use to be separate styles but looking at the first image you can see how the two styles have come together. From the structured bodices to the free flow bows its a lovely piece reflecting both centuries.

2) Lace, lace, lace.  Lace has definitely been a fabric that has developed so much. I have picked this beautiful red Dolce  & Gabbana dress, you can see the intricacy in the fabric.

3) This beautiful taffeta dress that does not need embellishment because the fabric is all the drama you need to leave people talking!

4) Masquerade was something that was established in these centuries and for me I love the idea of a masquerade. If one day I do not get invited to one then I will definitely organise one! I love the whole mystery behind the masquerade balls.

Look Magazine Weekly #19th October

Hello my lovelies I hope everyone has been having a good week or are excited for the weekend like I am. I finally can catch up on my sleep when Saturday comes, it's been so cold this week that even getting out of bed is a struggle. But enough about that, lets talk fashion and style!

On to all things LOOK.... 

So what's FashtasticFlare found this week, there are two articles I thought to talk about today. Let's get started with the Chanel Airlines, now when I first saw this on social media I was like since when did Chanel have an airline??? Then I realised it was their innovative idea for a runway, I must say its very unique and will go down in history as a memorable runway show. The thing I love about Karl Lagerfeld is, he really knows how to make Paris fashion week stand out!

Not only did I love this lovely marigold gown with a plunging neckline by Giambattista Valli, but I loved how Gigi Hadid made a statement in this dress to stun all those body shamers who are critiquing her. She's a beautiful women and she definitely silenced those haters in this gorgeous gown!

My style picks are from H&M and Reiss. I don't know what it is but I feel like I am always loving something from H&M every week and I think everyone is seeing this pattern. 

The H&M pick of the week is this skirt which is £49.99, its just WOW. I am really drawn to like and it gives off a Halloween vibe to me. I think it's probably because it's reminds of the mother from the Addam's family, but this is more elegant and sophisticated! ;)

The other style pick is another skirt, I think its because I am in need to add some skirts to my collection. This skirt is like a brown sugar colour and it has lovely lace trimmings at the hem and at the waist! It is a skirt you can take from day to night and you can style it for a lovely cocktail party!

Fashion History #3 Renaissance

Hello fellow fashion historians, can I call you that? I feel since we are going through the history of fashion, we are discovering different things about these centuries. So lets be fashion historians for this series. To our new historians, hello and welcome I will brief you on the previous two fashion history's. 

So I have talked about where it all began and what we have learnt and developed from different cultures. Then I went on to talk about the Medieval Era where body shape and clothes being more fitted were introduced. 

Now let's get started on this week's post.

On to all things Renaissance......

So this was a period in time where we have moved away from drapery and started to understand what a more fitted garment was like. It's also a point in time where tailoring was introduced and trust me, what a time to be alive in!

As you can see in the pictures above the dresses became, a more fitted bodice and a full skirt. The full skirts were widened and gathered at the waistline. The bodice on the other hand became smoother and fitted by creating structure through stiffening. Through stiffening the garments became rigid due to boning, this is where the development of Corsetry came from.

Now coming into present day, I wanted to talk about a collection that was inspired by the Renaissance. The collection was from a Milan fashion week back in the AW12 (Autumn and Winter 2012), the designer being Dolce&Gabbana. It was there take on Italian Renaissance, they took quite a lot of elements from the history in that time. 

Lets speak about the collection, so the structure of the garment and corset was reflected in the dress above. We all know that pearls and crowns were a favourite because of Queen Elizabeth being a major fashion icon in this period of time. And where would the Renaissance be without their cloaks or robes!

Look Magazine Weekly #12th October

Hello my lovelies I hope you all are having a great week! Believe me,  I totally can relate to all those people out there struggling to get sleep! I apologise that the post is quite late in the day, if you follow me on twitter you probably see my tweets ranting about how I am so tired. But I have made a promise to myself and for my lovely readers that I will still stick to my schedule and juggle everything else in my life! Also as you can see I have finally changed the look of my blog and I hope you all like it :) I sure do.

On to all things Look...

Now lets get down to what these posts are all about, so if you have been following my blog for some time then you will know this is where I tell you the latest fashion and style gossip. So let's kick this post off with a article that caught my eye. We are going across the world to Milan this week where we are looking at the trends that were showcased in their fashion week! 
The two things I really liked about the Milan style was the blouses because they are great pieces to wear whether it is for the professional environment or worn more causally. The other piece is the bomber jackets, I think they are so retro and cool at the same time.

Now my two style picks of the week are from H&M and Topshop. Starting with H&M I am really likely the monochrome mixed hints of blue number, it is definitely a lovely outfit styled together! Great for evening wear or even a night out with the girls! 
The second item I liked from topshop was the skirt on the bottom left, its another monochrome styled piece. It's so cute and a versatile piece to style, I simply love the crochet trim along the hem it makes the skirt extra special.

Fashion History #2 Medieval Era

Hello my lovelies I hope you all are having a great week so far. I know Friday feels so far away so I hope this post makes you feel more cheerful and lifts your mood a little bit.

On to all things Fashion History .....

I have fast forwarded a little bit into the 11th Century where I found that the tunic has been developed into a "T" shape to create fullness. Also the quality of the fabric reflected wealth of the wearer which you would understand in those days. I guess in society today many people would be considered wealthy on the way they dress now.

Now going into the 12th Century, fashion became very flamboyant because it was the time of the crusaders. This was the century where they made clothing more fitted, so you could show your body shape for the first time.

Eleanor of Aquitaine - Fashion Icon

I am delighted to write about the first fashion icon in my fashion history series. Now, I know majority of people are asking what is her relation with fashion, I will tell you. She popularized the bilaut which was a long overgown, that consisted of a tight bodice fitted with a skirt cut wide that led pleats and folds down to her feet. Due to being the Queen of France at that time her gowns were made of silk which were highly embellished and heavily embroidered with metallic threads. The colours often worn were blues, greys, burgundies and earthy tones, I think those were the traditional colours back then. She obviously seemed a woman of high taste and quality when it came to fashion. 

Moving on to the 13th to 14th Century I have noticed that alot of things have changed throughout these years like tunic, the tunic was forever developing. Things like draping was introduced to show movement in clothing. Plus the 14th Century was the beginning of tailoring, where fastenings such as buttons became more important. When looking back I do not really think we would regard buttons as something important rather we take them for granted. However I don't think we could ever imagine a world without buttons! 

A point to end on, the medieval era has taught me alot. From the forever developing tunic to clothes becoming figure fitting. I feel the history of fashion really helps designers when thinking about ideas. Remember fashion maybe forever changing but, that does not mean it hasn't came from history. Fashion is mostly developed from previous ideas that were found by these fashion historians or Icons.

Look Magazine Weekly #5th October

Hello my lovelies I hope you all had or are having a good day. Firstly I would like to thank each and every one of you for following my blog, on Sunday my small little blog hit 200 followers on Bloglovin and I am so immensely proud! 

You know what time of week it is, it's that time of week where I bring you all the latest fashion and style gossip from my favourite magazine.

On to all things LOOK .......

Now I understand I said last week I was disappointed with last week's issue but I guess they were saving the greatness for this week, so I am sorry I ever doubted you LOOK. I feel like London fashion week is a distant memory but it was only last week, I guess it's because there was so much hype over social media and it's calmed down alot! All the collections were amazing over all the fashion weeks and there were great designers that stuck out for me! I really like the Dolce & Gabanna collection, they make lace and florals the best features in the world.

I know you girls are wondering were is the style picks of the week, but I thought to do something different as I spotted this in the magazine this week. Most people know that the new film The Intern is coming out tomorrow and the trailer looks simply amazing! I love Anne Hathaway, she is one of my favourite actresses in Hollywood. I think LOOK has really done great things on the way they produced this, newspaper.
